DUI is a serious offense that carries extremely severe penalties in Florida. When someone causes an accident resulting in serious injuries or the death of another person, it becomes a felony DUI. DUI serious bodily injury is a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison. DUI manslaughter is a second-degree felony and is punishable by up to 15 years in prison. DUI manslaughter also carries a minimum mandatory prison sentence of four years if convicted.
